Ever since its inception 12 years ago, virtual and nontraditional currency Bitcoin has successfully amassed a set of powerful and influential investors who helped its existence become entirely legitimate. If you’ve only heard of Bitcoin critics and detractors, it’s about time to feast yourself with this list of the biggest Bitcoin investors across the globe:
- Satoshi Nakamoto
The anonymous man behind the creation of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto is the first investor and one of the biggest Bitcoin investors of this peer-to-peer (p2p) cryptocurrency. It is believed that in 2013, there were more than $700 million worth of Bitcoin under his control. Since Bitcoin’s future looks promising, so does the future of the enigmatic Nakamoto, whatever his real identity is.
- Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss
The Winklevoss twins may have been infamous for losing Facebook against Mark Zuckerberg, but this didn’t stop them from pursuing other business potentials. In 2013, these two Harvard graduate entrepreneurs invested a total of $11 million in Bitcoin which is now worth $32 million. In fact, according to their own words, Bitcoin is even “better than gold.”
- Chamath Palihapitiya
More popular as Facebook’s senior executive and a young venture capitalist, millionaire Chamath Palihapitiya is one of the biggest Bitcoin investors to date. Also the owner of NBA power team Golden State Warriors, he believes that Bitcoin is the “ultimate policy” against autocracy, or government’s absolute power over people’s finances.
- Floyd Mayweather
Apparently, entrepreneurs are not the only members of the Bitcoin fan club. Just this year, boxing legend Floyd Mayweather began promoting the cryptocurrency to his millions of online followers. He also appeared in a Bitcoin advertisement earlier this year. In September 2017, he even posted a photo holding a Titanian Centra or a debit card which uses Bitcoin and other digital money. In August, he even called himself “Floyd Crypto Mayweather” in his Instagram post.
- Paris Hilton
Hilton Hotels heiress and socialite celebrity Paris Hilton had also expressed her huge interest in Bitcoin and the propitious blockchain technology. In 2016, Hilton was spotted with Stephan Tual in a meeting that confirmed her to be one of biggest Bitcoin investors. Tual is another cryptocurrency entrepreneur.
